WHO WE ARE
THE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (USA)
Monterey and Beulah Presbyterian Churches are two small, welcoming churches in Highland County, Virginia and are part of the Presbyterian Church (USA).
For over four centuries, Presbyterians have been responding to the call of Jesus Christ, taking the gospel into the world and bearing witness to Christ’s saving love to the ends of the earth. Today the Holy Spirit is still on the move, calling us to share in what God is doing in the world.

CHURCH STRUCTURE
More than one million people call the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) their church home, with a core of beliefs that reflects the authority of scripture and salvation through Jesus Christ.
Presbyterians have a distinctive form of church government in which the authority to make decisions is lodged not in individuals but in groups, known as councils, made up of both ministers and elected members of congregations known as ruling elders. The word “Presbyterian” comes from the Greek word for “elder.”
All Presbyterians -- including ministers (teaching elders), ruling elders, deacons, and other church members -- are called to share the Good News with the entire world. ​​

SOCIAL WITNESS
Presbyterians believe that Jesus Christ made it clear in his teachings we have an ethical responsibility to engage in issues of social justice. Our social witness stance encourages church members and leaders to go to places of suffering and need to alleviate poverty, stop violence, protect the planet from climate change, and seek justice for immigrants, people of color, and all marginalized communities. By engaging in those issues from a biblical perspective, the church recognizes God’s sovereignty over every aspect of human life.
